Thursday August 26 – Rafting on the Arkansas River at Canon City (no ride day).
We had a blast on a three hour class II-IV whitewater rafting experience on the Arkansas River through the Royal Gorge.
We didn’t take a camera with us as we did not have a dry bag in which to put one. So the pics you see I have taken at random from off the internet. What we saw and experienced was better than these pictures portray. The area directly underneath the Royal Gorge Bridge itself was spectacular.
We had a great guide who skillfully maneuvered us around and through most rocks and rapids. However, we did get hung on a rock right at the narrow section of the gorge underneath the bridge. Two other guides had to get to assist us from shoreline with a rope by pulling us off the rock.
All of us were glad that we could experience the rafting trip together.
As a bonus, it was a day off the bike. Yeah. Seat recess!!
