Central Tennessee
Stats Wednesday, September 8 – Jackson, TN to Columbia, TN. Day distance 123.7; ride time 8 h 59 m; ave speed 13.7; total climb 5,182; total miles 2,807.7
As usual we were rolling shortly after 7:00. Rain wanted to fall during the first hour – but it never did. People were in a hurry to get to work. Many times we’ve encountered cars passing on a two lane road. So we’ve had two cars (side by side) coming at us. The drivers would probably brake for a dog, a deer. But cyclists? Nah…
Much of the day we dealt with gravel dump trucks and logging trucks. In construction zones with little or no shoulders. But we made it.
Good thing the sun was not out strong. Because the humidity…whoa…it’s heavy!! We are definitely back in the East.
The scenic highlight of the day was crossing the Tennessee River. Not a broad and big as the Mississippi, yet it is a beautiful sight.
A goal for the day was to reach Columbia by 5:00 to get to a bike shop. I needed a new tire on the rear wheel. Fortunately, we made it by 4:40.
Another day is done. Another day closer to the weekend and a day off. Another day closer to Charleston. Another day closer to home!!
